Abstract:

The author lauds the Department of Labor for permitting several hundred Jewish Russian immigrants fleeing the war to stay in the United States until their return passage to Russia could be safely effected, a concession based on purely humanitarian considerations since the letter of the law would have had them deported immediately despite the great risks to their lives and health.
