Abstract:

The author describes the Ben Akiva home for Jewish girls recently opened in St. Louis. It charges girls a fixed percentage of their income, excludes those whose incomes are too high and works with those of very low income to find a better paying job. It is especially aimed towards immigrant girls who are the first in their families to arrive and must live and work on their own. In addition to safe housing, it provides meals, laundry, and certain enrichment activities.
