Abstract:
The author reviews some of the issues faced by the Conference of Jewish Communal Service over its eighty-year history, and then discusses present and future concerns, focusing on four broad topics: financing the meeting of Jewish needs in America; serving and relating to the new immigrants (chiefly Israelis); the turning inward of the American Jew; and the roles of the professional and of the Conference.
