Abstract:
The author reviews the results of a survey of synagogues and YMCA/YMHAs in the greater New York area, addressing the issue of competition between the Y and the synagogue. He finds that while some tensions persist around issues such as education and youth programming, by and large the institutions regard one another as valued partners rather than competitors.
