Abstract:
The problem of teacher retention in Jewish supplementary schools cannot be separated from its place in a "tripod" of recruitment, training and retention, the author asserts. All three practices are necessary in order to create and retain a cohort of quality teachers. The author discusses several efforts to implement this tripod taking place in the greater Philadelphia community, including a recruitment initiative, a mentoring program, and guidelines and ideas for supplementary schools.
