Abstract:
According to the 1997 statistics, 14,614 Jews live in Latvia – more than half of them women. The subject of Jewish women in Latvia has never to my knowledge been an object of research. This paper is the first attempt in this direction. It offers a brief look at Jewish history in Latvia. It then focuses on an overview of the Jewish community in Latvia today, its organizations, and challenges, including exploring the reasons for its rapidly decreasing numbers.
