Abstract:
Hebrew schools are too often places that train docents for the Museum of Former Jewish Life. They are like guides in the orchestra section who can identify the oboe, the viola, and the kettle drums, but cannot tune or play any of them. We teach students about Judaism; we don't teach Judaism as a life process. The best possible future is when we begin to teach Judaism and do so in a Jewish way.
