Abstract:
The author provides demographic data on the Jewish community of Australia and describes internal and external challenges it faces. In the coming years, the author contends that the community will have to preserve Jewish identity in a society that offers numerous choices for an individual's self-identification, confront anti-Semitism and maintain a satisfactory relationship with government, among other major challenges. The author optimistically concludes that though the community faces certain hurdles, its rich history suggests that it will continue to be one of the Jewish world's great success stories.
