Abstract:
In a broad overview of religious, political and identity battles in the contemporary Jewish world, the author describes how a series of questions about the Jewish future are intricately interrelated: these questions include the nature of Zionism, whether or not Jewish religious practice in America and in Israel represent competing visions of Jewish religion, Israel's relations with Diaspora Jewry, denominational and halachic (Jewish legal) debates between the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform movements, and political debates within Israel.
