Abstract:
The author explores in detail the American Jewish community relations establishment's history, decision processes, and methods of categorization for problems, goals, tactics an issues, basing his conclusions on a survey of local Jewish community relations councils from all over the United States. The author asserts that the contemporary field of community relations faces a number of challenges that may impede its continued effectiveness, including changing windows of consensus, external shifts in political attitudes, and generational transitions of leadership.
