Abstract:
This report outlines the inner life and worldview of the haredi community and provides a background on haredi doctrine, culture, politics and demographics. The authors explain the historical background of the haredim, their conflict with Zionist parties, and their recent emergence to prominence and visibility in the Israeli political and educational systems. Similarly, they shed new light on the haredi economy and their controversial and complicated relationship with the Israeli military sector. The authors conclude by focusing on the haredi communities in American Jewry, emphasizing the Lubavitch hasidim and their relationship to Israel and Israeli politics.
