Abstract:
The author speculates on the future of the formation of cultural identity in an era where everything, including culture and cultural practices, seems subject to a marketplace mentality. The Jewish community must seek out and create spaces and institutions that allow it to shape and transmit alternative forms of culture, based in memory, values, and social collectivity, that can resist the allure of the market as a source of identity.
