Abstract:
In the Fall of 2001, "Trembling Before God," a documentary following the lives of gay Orthodox Jews opened to great critical acclaim. What was most surprising about the film's reception, as the author discusses, was the reaction the film received from the Orthodox Community, which used it as a vehicle to openly discuss homosexuality and the gay community in a Jewish context.
