Abstract:

The author introduces a series of articles exploring recent trends in the study of the phenomenon of martyrdom in Jewish history, theology, philosophy and liturgy. Jewish martyrdom is a much more multifaceted and mysterious phenomenon than was previously thought, the author explains.
