Abstract:

This study is a compendium of facts on Florida's housing, highlighting the tremendous diversity in housing characteristics across the state. First, the housing stock is examined through property appraiser data files. A study of housing affordability next reveals that the majority of affordable housing is located in rural counties in the interior and northern part of the state. Next, the changes in sales volume and median sales prices of both single-family housing and condominiums are examined between 2006 and 2007, while housing supply and real median sales price are looked at by MSA and non-metropolitan areas. Lastly, the impact of new residential construction in Florida in 2007 is analyzed in terms of economic output, earnings, and employment.
