Abstract:

The places where we live, learn, work and play have a strong influence on our ability to maintain a healthy diet and engage in regular physical activity, which are two of the most essential components of good health.

Leadership for Healthy Communities, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation national program, works with local and state government leaders nationwide to support their efforts to create healthier communities through public policies to promote active living, healthy eating and access to healthy foods. This brochure provides examples of the work that has been supported through Leadership for Healthy Communities.

Based in Washington, D.C., Leadership for Healthy Communities supports policy efforts that can improve nutrition and increase physical activity among children at high risk for obesity, especially African-American, Latino, Native American, Asian American and Pacific Islander children living in low-income communities.
