Abstract:
How best to extend health insurance coverage to the uninsured? This report and accompanying documents analyze 10 health coverage reform models, weighing the likely costs and the number of uninsured who would be covered by each plan. John Sheils and Randall Haught of The Lewin Group authored the report, part of the RWJF-funded Covering America project. "Covering America: Cost and Coverage Analysis of Ten Proposals to Expand Health Insurance Coverage" picks up where 17 detailed reform proposals left off. The reform plans are presented in three volumes, and are published by the Economic and Social Research Institute and available at the Covering America Web site. This document analyzes the proposals presented in the first volume. We present the full text of the report, key lessons stemming from the analysis, insights into methodology, as well as full text of the detailed cost and coverage analysis of each of the 10 proposals. We also include a link to a news release summarizing the project.
