Abstract:
Names for Navy ships traditionally have been chosen and announced by the Secretary of the Navy. Members of the public are sometimes interested in having Navy ships named for certain persons, places, or things. Congress in recent years has proposed, and sometimes passed, legislation regarding the naming of specific ships. Section 1013 of S. 2766, the Senate-passed version of the FY2007 defense authorization bill, would name the aircraft carrier CVN-78 for President Gerald Ford. This report will be updated when events warrant.
