Abstract:
According to this report, sham issue ads have mushroomed and are becoming a conduit for special interest money in Michigan. According to the Michigan Campaign Finance Network, over $15 million in undisclosed, unregulated special interest money made its way into Michigan’s gubernatorial race in November 2006 through thinly veiled issue advertisements. Unreported soft money contributions “rob the public of any meaningful opportunity to understand the links between organizations and the politicians that keep them in business,†said Suzanne Novak of the Brennan Center, the lead author of the report.
