Abstract:
The United States should recognize the critical role that Indonesia can fulfill in constructing a broad realistic policy in Asia. Rather than focusing inordinate attention on China, the U.S. must reorient its policies more toward Southeast Asia in general and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in particular. As the largest and most important member of ASEAN, Indonesia should be accorded much more attention than it has in the past fifteen years.
