Abstract:
Pakistani President Zia al-Haq's visit to Washington from December 6 to 9 comes at a crossroads in U.S.-Pakistani relations. Although the two countries have fallen into an awkward, mutually embarrassing strategic embrace, due to the repercussions of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the Iranian revolution, it remains to be seen whether recent improvements in bilateral relations can be maintained over the long haul.
