Abstract:
Three years ago today, Soviet troops rolled into Afghanistan. Within hours, Moscow installed Babrak Karma1 as a puppet ruler in Kabul and have kept him in power only through the force of over 100,000 troops. The United States should dispatch to the Afghan Freedom Fighters the supplies needed to sustain their fight for independence. The Soviet Union must be convinced that the costs of holding Afghanistan exceed the strategic benefits. Only then will it reconsider its policy of military adventurism in Afghanistan
