Abstract:
This paper examines the situation in Angola and, in particular, the viability of UNITA as an alternative government to the Marxist MPLA regime. This study assesses the characters, strengths and weaknesses of the various indigenous opposition movements. On the basis of the those evaluations, it discusses the future
course of U.S. policy towards Angola, assuming that the ultimate objective of that policy should be to faciIitate the establishment of a truly popular, independent, nationalist government in that country.
