Abstract:

With bold and imaginative ideas, the Russian Far East could undergo the kinds of economic growth experienced by California during the decades following the 19th-century “gold rush.” The Russian Far East is more than adequately endowed with natural resources. It is located in the booming Asia-Pacific region, and it is capable of attracting foreign investors. Moreover, it could draw millions of the unemployed from the rustbelts of European Russia, the Urals, and Siberia.
