Abstract:

“Sensible Tools for Healthy Communities” was produced to help community leaders who might often not have all the information they need to understand how growth will affect their environment and quality of life. In doing so, the Campaign for Sensible Growth, Metropolitan Planning Council and Metropolitan Mayors Caucus created this guide to explain how development can occur in a way that makes a community more livable.

The booklet is designed as an accessible handbook for government officials and concerned citizens to evaluate proposed developments in their communities and includes checklists, worksheets and important questions to ask of developers. "We want communities and developers to reach for this book when they're working through housing and development challenges," says Mary Sue Barrett, president of the Metropolitan Planning Council and co-chair of the Campaign for Sensible Growth.
