Abstract:
Th is report, Reproductive Genetic Testing: Issues and Options for Policymakers, aims to help focus and facilitate the discussion about reproductive genetic testing by outlining key scientifi c and medical facts, considering ethical and social implications, and assessing both current and potential oversight for the development and use of reproductive genetic tests. It presents a range of policy options supported by expert analysis that consider the potential effects, positive and negative, of distinctly diff erent policy directions. Our goal at the Genetics and Public Policy Center is not to advocate for or against any technology or policy outcome but to make sure that policy decisions, including the decision to maintain the status quo, are undertaken with a clear-eyed understanding of their potential impact.
