Abstract:
The Talmud and the medieval rabbis examined in depth the responsibilities of communal leadership. They struggled with the issue whether leaders should reflect the will of the people or create communal priorities. Today, as in the past, it is the task of communal leadership both to reflect the needs of the community and to give the community a sense of purpose and vision.
