Abstract:

This issue of Contact focuses on the roots and implications for the Jewish community of the current economic crisis. Lynn Schusterman argues that especially in a recession it is vital to fulfill our duties of charitable giving. Dr. Jonathan D. Sarna provides a historical perspective on the American Jewish community's ability to respond to economic crises. J.J. Goldberg draws lessons from the Bernard Madoff scandal.
