Abstract:

The caseworker representing the Jewish agency has the responsibility of individualizing the religious, social, ethical and communal aspects of Jewish identity; of bringing its richness to the individual; and using it in the treatment process to help the individual in his struggles. In enabling the individual to value his Jewish identity and to use it for his own growth and development, the Jewish social worker opens the possibility for each client to add from his own experiences to the collective strength of Judaism and its continuity. This article explores the roles of the Jewish Casework Agency by comparing it to other agencies within the Jewish community. The author argues that the most effective treatment will come from those agencies with the strongest ties to Jewish culture and religion.
