Abstract:
This article looks at strategies of effectively engaging into treatment the Soviet immigrant population. The author argues that basic engagement techniques must be broad enough to take into account issues that this immigrant population have with use of information, trust, authority, and methods of problem-solving. The experiences of the Soviet Jews in these areas, affect the development of the various components of engagement: referral, understanding, respect, and confidentiality. Looking at these pieces of process in a different cultural light clearly indicates the need for expanded skills and techniques in the areas of diagnosis and engagement.
