Abstract:
In 1981, state funding was made available to private and public agencies by the Maryland Division for Mental Retardation and Other Developmental Disabilities (MRDD) for an “Alternate Living Unit†program to serve higher functioning mentally disabled people then housed in state institutions. This article discusses the progress and results of the Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Baltimore involvement in this initiative.
